胃食道逆流疾病是指胃內容物因某些因素之影響逆流至食道，進而引起不適症狀之食道疾病。心口灼熱及湧酸感是其臨床典型的症狀。胃食道逆流疾病雖不致引起病人立即的生命危害，但卻可能因為症狀反覆不適，導致病患不斷求醫而影響工作情緒和醫療費用支出。胃食道逆流疾病是一種普遍反覆的慢性疾病，而且臨床上病人十分常見，因此本文特將此一疾病提出，以供進一步認識與了解。
 

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a debilitating condition, characterized by symptoms of chronic, intermittent heartburn and acid regurgitation and is a potentially serious condition that can greatly reduce patients' quality of life and carries a risk of oesophagitis and complications. Most patients will require long term management. This paper will consider the current understanding on the GERD.
