The patient was a victim of a traffic accident that resulted in spinal cord injury (SCI). Methylprednisolone was given to the patient to inhibit post-SCI lipid peroxidation and the subsequent, injury-induced, degenerative cascade. However, following injection of methylprednisolone, the patient suffered from anaphylaxis. Some patients experience an allergic reaction towards corticosteroids, a reaction that may in some cases be fatal. When a patient experiences anaphylactic shock, therefore, providing them with the appropriate treatment promptly can keep the harm suffered to a minimum.
